  • Employment and Collaboration Opportunities in Computer Science and Education    April 21, 2008

    Murugan Pal, co-founder & President of CK-12 Foundation, will present employment and collaboration information pertaining to CK12 Flexbook project.
    Using an open-source, web-based model termed the "Flexbook," this presentation will address efforts to pioneer the generation and distribution of high quality educational webtexts that will serve both as source materials for a student's learning and, as well, provide an adaptive environment that scaffolds the learner's journey as he or she masters a standards-based body of knowledge.

    Murugan is currently the co-founder & President of CK-12 Foundation, a non-profit organization launched in 2006, that aims to reduce the cost of textbook materials for the K-12 market both in the US and worldwide. Pal has worked on real-time enterprise technologies, composite applications, service-oriented architecture runtimes, relational databases, object databases, and robotics and manufacturing automation. Pal holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, affiliated to Madurai University in India, a Master's in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University, a Master's in Computer Science from Arizona State University, and was a Doctoral Candidate in Industrial Engineering at Arizona State University.

    Eligibility Requirements –
    Students must...
    • be Hispanic
    • maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average (on a 4.0 scale)
    • be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
    • reside in the U.S. or Puerto Rico
    • be a current or rising undergraduate (some programs accept grad. students) student or a high school senior enrolling at a college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico
    • demonstrate financial need

    *Some HCF Programs also require that a student be pursuing a certain area of study.
    * Students studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Pharmacy and Nursing are highly encourage to apply
