Why Choose a Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Technology Degree?
Solid Educational Foundation
A mechanical or manufacturing engineering technology degree from the Mechanical and Manufacturing Technology Department provides the educational foundation for:
- creating or building products -- e.g., jet engines, automotive parts, food packaging, or farm equipment;
- becoming an entrepreneur and starting or running your own business;
- preparing for graduate study in a technical or business related field; and
- building a good life for you and your family.
Students receive invaluable experience in the form of industry projects. In past years, projects have been entered into the SME WESTEC Manufacturing Challenge Competition in Los Angeles, and many have won awards. Photos and more information are available of past student projects.
Upon graduation, students will have the skills and knowledge needed to move directly into the workforce. Read testimonials from current students and graduates about their experiences in MMET programs.
Superior Employment Opportunities
Employment opportunity is an important aspect of your educational objectives. Our degrees lead to good employment opportunities in the mechanical and manufacturing engineering fields, which are typically well-paid professions. Our recent graduates have obtained starting annual salaries between $49,000 and $60,000.
Many companies in the Valley with a mechanical or manufacturing component to their operation require a talented and knowledgeable engineering workforce. The majority of MMET graduates are employed immediately upon graduation with companies such as Honeywell, Boeing, BF Goodrich, General Motors and Rockwell Automation, as well as many smaller companies. Based on our degrees, graduates can obtain either professional certification or licensure to strengthen their standing within their field.
Experienced, Caring Faculty
Our educational mission is centered on students and their learning, not just research. Faculty are available and interested in helping students learn. We want students to feel that, in addition to their hard work, they have:
- been advised well,
- been treated fairly,
- achieved a grade appropriate to their success in the class, and
- learned material that will improve their future prospects.
Survey data from recent graduating seniors indicate that we have met these goals. See the results from graduating student surveys.
Financial Aid and Internship Opportunities
Many of our students, after acquiring in-discipline knowledge, find part-time employment with local industry while still in school. While not required, internships with industry are encouraged.
Limited scholarships are also available, administered either by the MMET Department or local professional groups.
In addition, financial aid is available in various forms. Please visit the Student Financial Aid page.
